For Deep Blue Sea, The Java Quartet’s fifth album, the band relocated to Byron Bay to record where they discovered that the acoustic nature of both the 301 Studios and the lush, coastal environment indeed provided the perfect setting.
Together with long time collaborator, engineer-extraordinaire Keith Walker (the band’s silent fifth member from the very beginning) Java abandoned the usual room separation recording techniques to recapture the old school Blue Note ‘straight to tape’ alchemy.
This year Java celebrates ten years as a band and welcomes back saxophonist Matt Ottignon into the fold.
Deep Blue Sea is testament to the richness of the quartet’s intoxicating, beautifully nuanced sound.
