Don Rader

Don Rader has one of the great trumpet sounds, a brass sound, sometimes cutting and powerfully projected, but a beautifully modulated sound. His lines are just wonderful… – John Clare.

USA-born jazz legend Don Rader is an outstanding soloist both on the trumpet and flugelhorn and has been a professional Jazz musician since 1959. As a performer and composer/arranger, he has worked with key artists including Count Basie, Woody Herman, Percy Faith, Frank Sinatra, Tom Jones, Elvis Presley, Ray Charles, Henry Mancini and Diana Ross.

Don moved to Sydney in 1994 and has worked with Tom Burlinson, Rhonda Burchmore, Frank Bennett and Sydney Allstar Big Band among others and continues to teach at the Conservatorium of Music. His recent duo project with young pianist Gerard Masters was a hit at Bellingen Jazz Festival.

Odyssey is a mix of jazz standards and original material, Don Rader’s 10th recording as bandleader. The album is only his second release in Australia, his first being with the late Roger Frampton.

A rare and exciting performance.
