Sandy Evans

GEST8 is an innovative improvising ensemble made up of eight of Sydney’s leading musicians under the direction of Sandy Evans and Tony Gorman.

Over the last twenty years, Tony and Sandy Evans have composed a wide variety of music, including their internationally recognised work in Clarion Fracture Zone. In GEST8 they build on this, creating music of great depth and originality. The band made its debut performance in 2004 at The Sydney Opera House for the inaugural JazzNow festival and have since enjoyed numerous national performances.

The band explores jazz, free improvised music, traditional Japanese and Korean music, computer music, funk, rock, contemporary classical music, circus music and various forms of folk. Each of the players is a virtuoso on their instrument with a strong original sound, renowned for outstanding creative ideas and conceptual breadth and imagination.

This is the first performance at The Sound Lounge in a year, so don’t miss this!

Sandy Evans & Tony Gorman

Gorman and Evans have something very special here. I rate it as Evans’s best band ever, and she has had some cracking ones – John Shand, SMH.
