Chris Cody

Cody’s compositions reflect the diversity of his tone: a touch both firm and singing, a deliberately rapid phrasing, but that never lose sight of the melody, a taste for full fleshed harmonies, an inspired interpretation of which the atmosphere will haunt you a long time. Magical! – Piano Magazine, France.

Another example of a jazz that knows the evolution towards the avant-garde but stays anchored on lasting values, and privileges feeling, beauty and melody. – JazzHot, France.

Pianist Chris Cody is back from Paris for a visit and to launch in Australia his latest CD Conscript (Nocturne, France). He reunites his Sydney band Chris Cody Coalition comprising James Greening, Lloyd Swanton and Fabian Hevia. If you haven’t heard this band before, don’t miss this rare opportunity!

Chris Cody Coalition has released several CDs to international acclaim and performed in jazz clubs and festivals around the world including Paris, London, Rome, Brussels, Sabaudia, Marciac, Casablanca, Stockholm, Geneva, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth. Their hugely successful concerts and CDs have been featured on radio and television in France and Australia (Bernard Pivot, ABC Arts Show, France Musique etc.).

Originally from Sydney, Chris Cody is a pianist and composer of astonishing harmonies and impressive sensitivity. The new CD Conscript gathers together eleven pieces of exceptional sensuality and urban groove alternating between swing, jungle, ballad, and other contemporary styles. Chris has played with some of Australia’s leading jazz musicians including James Morrison, Dale Barlow and Mike Nock and been awarded prizes for Best Jazz Composition and Best Jazz Pianist as well as performing extensively in the USA and throughout Europe. He has also taught at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and writes music for theatre and cinema.
