Sandy Evans & Tony Gorman

Pleasingly unlike any other octet on earth! Doug Spencer, ABC.

GEST8, performing together for 5 years, is one of Australia’s most innovative jazz ensembles. Co-leaders/primary composers Sandy Evans and Tony Gorman have long been two of Australia’s most consistently rewarding/creative musicians in jazz… and in music well beyond what most people consider ‘jazz’.

The band is back at The Sound Lounge to exalt with their exploration of new sounds (which includes koto and electronics – an unusual blend of ancient and modern sounds) and undeniable virtuosity of each player. The medieval meets the avant-garde through this band’s creative processes, stimulating musicianship and camaraderie.

Seeing and hearing them live is a sensory delight.

One of the most successful fusions of contemporary Australian jazz with Asian and electronic influences yet to appear – John Macbeath, The Australian.
