Mark Isaacs

Following the release last year of his Australian/American collaboration Resurgence (ABC) which garnered rave reviews in the USA and was nominated for an ARIA back home, Mark toured extensively with an all-Australian version of the band and a new repertoire, giving festival and club appearances in Japan, Korea and Thailand and playing all around Australia including the Wangaratta and Stonnington jazz festivals. The band will record their new CD live at the Sound Lounge over a special two-night season.

Mark continues to compose classical concert pieces on commission. In April his composition Songs at First Light for jazz piano trio and chamber sextet was premiered at the Aurora Festival of new music in Sydney in a live national broadcast that also included the premiere of a new work for string quartet. He will perform solo piano free improvisation in the Jazz/Now Festival at the Sydney Opera House in September. Mark has also continued his work as a jazz curator, programming the upcoming Brisbane Jazz Festival at the Brisbane Powerhouse.

Don’t miss these dates when the band will undoubtedly be on fire!

Isaacs, with every release, has refined his systematic approach to post-modernity jazz to the point that his sound defines what jazz should sound like at the advent of the 21st Century in the same way Joe King Oliver, Satch, and Bix defined New Orleans/Chicago, Basie and Ellington defined the swing era, Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie defined be bop and Miles Davis defined everything else – C. Michael Bailey ALL ABOUT JAZZ (USA)

Bigger than any big band on the night was the emotion pianist Mark Isaacs brought to the Wangaratta Town Hall at 11pm… Isaacs felt every nuance and played it – Roger Mitchell HERALD SUN (MELBOURNE)
