A formidable jazz improviser, original, powerful and articulate – The Age, Melbourne.
One of Australia’s most accomplished and internationally recognised jazz artists, Dale was a member of legendary American groups The Cedar Walton Quartet, and Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, two of the greatest training grounds for young musicians in jazz history. He now repeats this process by introducing Sydney to new jazz talent in his SIMA performances throughout 2007 and 2008.
Renowned as an inspiring, virtuosic and original tenor saxophonist/ composer, he is also an accomplished flautist/bass clarinettist/ arranger and pianist.
Dale has toured and recorded with many greats in jazz, including Chet Baker, Curtis Fuller, Dizzy Gillespie and Sonny Stitt (one of his idols).
Having also been part of the greatest jazz scene in the world, New York, Dale is now based in Sydney and continues to work on numerous projects, including his inspiring work with young, upcoming jazz musicians as featured tonight in bassist Alex Boneham, pianist Hugh Barrett and drummer Cameron Reid.
