Tonight, SIMA presents a Euro-Australian mix of local jazz musicians with Berlin-based artists, including renowned drummer Tony Buck, German pianist Magda Mayas and bassist Clayton Thomas.

In the first set, experience Strike Three as two young bass players, having worked intimately but separately with Jon Rose for years, unite for the first time with one of the 21st Century’s master conceptualists and improvisers. Described as “A new millenium Paganini” by The West Australian, Rose is “an archaeologist of vibrations” (The Age) whose energy and invention is perfectly complemented by young bass musicians Majkowski (Mike Nock Trio) and Thomas (the Nownow).

In the second set, master percussionist Tony Buck (widely known for his work with ground breaking trio – The Necks), in collaboration with the brilliant young German pianist Magda Mayas.

Tightly intertwined at the level of both the sonic material they pursued and the rhythmic pointilism with which they went about their journey, they stunned me into wide-eyed, open-mouthed attention. – Andrew Choate (Konfrontationen 2007)
