The richness, diversity and accessibility of The Catholics suffuses every track… no written description can do justice to this music. If you’ve heard the whisper, which is now becoming a roar, that [is] the new Australian jazz. Rolling Stone
Nearly 20 years of performing nationally and overseas has ensured the catholics are indeed one of Australia’s finest jazz bands, with sell-out concerts, tours and award-winning albums behind them.
Led by bass player Lloyd Swanton, of The Necks, Mo-Award Winners of Best Jazz Group, The Catholics have established themselves as audience and critic favourites through their beautifully-crafted and instantly-accessible jazz pieces, featuring a strong, seductive dance strain found through various African, Caribbean, Latin and Eastern influences…a distinctive and eclectic blend of elements.
Lloyd Swanton’s long-running project, The catholics music is a unique, powerful jazz blowing on dance rhythms, all framed by very catchy melodies, with slide guitar and percussion a highlight.
