The Sedergreen brothers – pianist/educator Steve and self-taught multi-saxophonist (alto, tenor and soprano) Mal – have been operating Mistaken Identity since the late ‘80’s, and have produced several recordings.
Their last project saw the brothers come full-circle with their teaming up with two important jazz figures who had mentored them when they were starting out; drummer Ted Vining and the late bassist Barry Buckley.
Since the passing of Buckley, Nick Haywood – also a highly accomplished and hard-swinging bassist, has filled that role.
Spontaneity, passion and a spirit of inclusiveness have long been the hallmarks of the band which maintains a loyal following as its members to continue to expand their mainly original repertoire, including a number of tunes dedicated to Australian and U.S jazz greats. They also perform arrangements of Stevie Wonder tunes from their most recent CD release, Wondering.
A great chance to catch this Melbourne group in this Sydney performance.
