Back in Australia for only a few weeks, this is a great chance to experience the brilliance of composer and trombonist Adrain Mears as he leads his quartet of famous Sydney artists through two sets of original compositions and modern jazz standards.
Adrian Mears embarked on his voyage to Europe nearly 18 years ago and has established an international reputation as one of Europe’s most talented and diverse musicians.
Mears’ career is already distinguished by performance and recording credits alongside the likes of the Vienna Art Orchestra, Kenny Wheeler, Bobby Shew, Klaus Doldinger, Carla Bley, Steve Swallow and many others – and he has recorded for ENJA, Blue Note Records and ECM.
He was teaching in Mannheim Conservatorium, Germany for 10 years, Cologne 2 years, and is currently a Professor at the Music Academy in Basel, Switzerland.
On this short visit home he has chosen one of his early musical mentors, Bernie McGann, to join him, with whom he toured and performed rigorously with Monica and the Moochers and other ensembles during the early late 80´s early 90´s – while the rhythm section are two well- known Sydney musicians – both to Adrian and to Sydney audiences.
