The catholics

The richness, diversity and accessibility of The Catholics suffuses every track… no written description can do justice to this music – Rolling Stone

One of Australia’s finest jazz bands, and winners of a Mo Award for Best Jazz Group the Catholics are led by bass player Lloyd Swanton.

Together nearly 20 years, The catholics compose nearly all their own tunes, and their influences include the dance rhythms of African, Caribbean, Latin and Eastern music.

The Catholics have established themselves as audience and critic favourites through their beautifully-crafted and instantly-accessible jazz pieces, featuring a strong, seductive dance strain found through various African, Caribbean, Latin and Eastern influences… a distinctive and eclectic blend of elements.

Lloyd Swanton’s long-running project, The catholics’ music is a unique, powerful jazz blowing on dance rhythms, all framed by very catchy melodies, with slide guitar and percussion a highlight.
