Ten Part Invention

One of Australias most innovative and talent-studded line-ups…. As always, the virtuosity and musicianship is peerless – The Age

Ten Part Invention has been the most exciting and innovative large ensemble in Australia, since drummer and leader John Pochée created the band 23 years ago as a special medium for Australian composers and improvisers. With many of the ensembles individualistic voices contributing to the bands extensive repertoire, tonight sees the spotlight on pianist Paul McNamara with the premiere of two of his new pieces.

Ten Part Invention’s outstanding lineup of virtuosic soloists manage to blend into a whole playing original music that finds new ground in the big band tradition. Able to forge into experimental territory without forgetting their original, swing-oriented roots, the excitement is palpable in the live setting.

With tours and interstate performances planned for 2010, this is a great chance to catch the band as they play the Sound Lounge to a discerning audience which has come to recognize and delight in the singular expertise of this powerful group. Tonight also presents the rare opportunity to purchase back titles of the band’s four outstanding recordings, two on ABC and two on Rufus Records.
