The alcohotlicks are a Sydney-based band formed in the later part of 2002 featuring the twin guitars of 1st & 2nd place winners at the 2007 Wangaratta Festival of Jazz National Jazz Awards – Aaron Flower and Ben Hauptmann. The unusual instrumentation of the band comprises these two electric guitars and drummer, Evan Mannell.
With the first two years spent writing and performing in the local Sydney Jazz scene the alcohotlicks have now written over 30 compositions and released two self produced live CDs, including You, You in 2009.
A 2007 ABC commission in 2007 saw them record a feature for Jazztrack with Mal Stanley, while career highlights include: the Jazz:Now festival (Sydney Opera House 2004 and 2008), Stonnington Jazz Festival and the Wangaratta Festival of Jazz.
With a unique sound that draws as much from jazz as it does from grunge and hard rock, with nods to country, blues and South American/Spanish music, this is a local band to watch.
(This trio) mash basically contemporary style featuring guitars into an urgent, often electrifying live experience… a very watchable live band – Brag
…Knocking away the arbitrary boundaries we impose on music with abandon, ever inventive, never predictable and thoroughly entertaining. Virtuosos wearing their virtuosity with unselfconscious lightness – Michael Smith, Drum Media
