Rarely does a new voice of such originality and unusual approach appear… Pita’s voice is plaintive, ethereal and evocative of misty dawns on Asian Temples – The Australian
Nadene Pita has developed an exploratory sound that encompasses minimalist songs of haunting beauty, sound art and electro-acoustic improvisation.
While abstract jazz, experimental folk and classical elements inform her music, her mixed heritage, childhood, surrealist stories and Buddhist philosophy suffuses it with a diversity and humanity. Trained in jazz voice and classical viola she incorporates extended techniques and live electronics, recently releasing her debut album, Turning Arrows into Flowers to critical acclaim. A study of Buddhist principles, duality, acceptance and the search for present meaning, evolving around a woman’s personal journey through life, the album is a delightful musical journey. She is joined by the cutting edge of Australia’s innovative improvisers, Alister Spence, Abel Cross and Finn Ryan.
When Pita and her band really let fly, the music can head off into the stratosphere, so don’t miss out on this exciting debut performance.
