Totally absorbing…Kynan Robinson has created a well integrated journey in sound. This is a surreal body of work worth unwrapping – Herald Sun
This is a SIMA debut, a chance to experience The Escalators, a band that sounds quite unlike anything else. Taking its inspiration from some of the artistic concepts of master film maker David Lynch the band has developed its own very unique approach to music making through the ideas of composer Kynan Robinson, whose music explores reality and fantasy, creating beautiful, sometimes unsettling music played by a band of accomplished musicians and with dramatic set design, haunting imagery and video to bring a stunning live show.
Bandleader Kynan Robinson has carved out a significantly impressive career as a highly talented and daring musician and composer and member of bands as diverse as ARIA award winning CW Stoneking to the Adam Simmons Quartet. The Escalators have performed at numerous Australian festivals and clubs tonight, launch their debut album Wrapped in Plastic, coinciding with a national tour.
The trombone-wielding young Australian leader is both improvisatory player & meticulous composer, his music always logical yet often surprising – Doug Spencer: Radio National
Kynan Robinson, trombonist, composer, and band leader, typifies players who are making brilliant and original music, which can loosely be defined as a new Melbourne sound… Their music features solos, but puts as much emphasis on ensemble playing – The Herald Sun
