SIMA was constituted in 1984 and is one of Australia’s leading contemporary jazz organizations.

Over the years, many musicians and bands such as Clarion Fracture Zone, Roger Frampton, Ten Part Invention, Bernie McGann, The catholics, Mike Nock, Sandy Evans, Aron Ottignon, James Muller, Bobby Gebert, Wanderlust, Matt MacMahon, Phil Slater, Aron Ottignon and in their early days The Necks, gained invaluable exposure because of SIMA, who facilitated the development of their original music and helped forge an Australian voice in contemporary jazz.
