SIMA welcomes singer/songwriter Steve Clisby to the Sound Lounge in an exciting duo and quartet mode sure to inspire audiences.

From the rich musical pastures of California, to the diversity of Amsterdam and finally Australia, Steve Clisby’s musical journey has been hard won and extensive, showcasing his talents and versatility as an artist. It can be heard in the way he sings a ballad, to the way he switches easily from a sophisticated jazz standard to a hard-driving, r’n’b tune and then on to a blues.

A master of all things jazzy and soulful, US-born, Sydney-based musician Steve Clisby is a consummate performer who captivates the audience whenever he takes to the stage. Working alongside jazz greats such as Dennis Chambers and John Lee and international juggernauts such as Frank Zappa, Tina Turner, Chaka Khan, Kool And The Gang and Santana, Steve’s soulful brand of jazz funk has won him fans around the world. He has seen his work used everywhere from television commercials to the latest dance tracks

Having established himself on the European music scene through his successful long-term jazz fusion group American Gypsy, he made the move to Australia in 1999 to follow new musical paths and establish his own production company, Miracle-8. Australia has since been soaking up the fresh sounds of Steve and he has carved a solid reputation as a performer, producer, lecturer and popular session singer.

Steve opens the show in intimate mode with pianist Bill Risby, featuring songs from their duo album Golden Ring. He is then joined in the second set by the wonderful rhythm section of Jonathon Zwartz and Hamish Stuart as they present pure velvet sounds from Steve’s extensive repertoire that will leave a buzz that stays with the audience long after the music has stopped.
