“James Muller is a mountain of guitar virtuosity and invention. All the things that are most effective in jazz, rock, blues and country guitar emerge naturally at the right time in the right place, and it can give the listener shivers.”
John Clare, SMH

James Muller is regarded as one of Australia’s foremost guitarists and jazz musicians. His playing has been a mainstay the Australian jazz scene and his is one of the first names mentioned when discussing world class musicians. James leads his own bands and performs regularly with James Morrison, The Jazzgroove Mothership Orchestra and the Mark Isaacs Resurgence Band. He has also recently recorded albums with Sean Wayland in New York and Steve Hunter and is equally at home playing with international legends such as Chad Wackerman, Bill Stewart, Vinnie Colaiuta and Matt Pendman to name but a few.

Muller has had the opportunity many artists never get to have, of performing with one of his great influences, the legendary American guitarist John Scofield. The fact that Scofield went on to praise Muller and his artistry is even more remarkable.

James Muller’s many achievements include co-winning the National Jazz Awards held at the Wangaratta Jazz Festival; two Mo awards for best jazz instrumentalist and best jazz group; an APRA award; and the 2004 Freedman Fellowship (Jazz).

He is an in demand jazz guitarist and composer who’s renowned trio format regularly receives critical and audience acclaim. Come and catch him at his best, at the helm of his very tight trio in the intimate space of The Sound Lounge.
