“Isaacs’ compositions flood the senses, the pianist playing with a passion that stands out in Australia today” LIMELIGHT Magazine

The Mark Isaacs Resurgence Band continues to gain widespread acclaim for its virtuosic and lyrical performances of compositions by jazz/classical pianist and composer Mark Isaacs. The all-star band reclaims the good name of jazz fusion with its heady brew of soul, gospel, classical, blues, Latin and R&B influences melded into an open-ended acoustic/electric jazz framework with memorable melodies and brilliantly interactive playing.

The Resurgence Band’s latest CD Aurora (Gracemusic/MGM) received critical acclaim in Australia and overseas, with the band undertaking a successful 14-concert tour of Australia.

Aurora was nominated for the Bell Awards Best Australian Jazz Blend Album and the band itself for Best Australian Jazz Ensemble as well as Best Independent Jazz Album at the 2011 Jägermeister Independent Music Awards. 2011 was also a very good year for individual band members with Matt Keegan winning the Freedman Jazz Fellowship and Tim Firth taking first place at the National Jazz Awards.

Mark’s parallel career in classical music continues apace with his first symphony being commissioned by News Ltd CEO Kim Williams, to be premiered by the Queensland Symphony Orchestra in 2012-13. Mark recently completed a cello concerto for Goldner Quartet cellist Julian Smiles and has composed a suite of new piano music for his recital in the 2012 Adelaide Festival.

“One of the most original sounds you will hear for some time, capturing wide territory of jazz, funk and hard grooves....captivating and intriguing....It’s jazz chamber music, full on and riveting with gorgeous solo work coming through from everyone”  Leon Gettler (THE AGE)

“Isaacs is a master of writing pieces that are both emotionally complex and yet still orderly… this is music composed and performed for the listener, not at them. Wonderfully integrated, thoughtful and intelligent…some of the best on the cutting edge of accessible jazz.”  ALL ABOUT JAZZ (USA)
