“We deserve to hear creative young Victorians like these, who in their youth are already capable of producing music of transcendent beauty.’” (Steve Robertson)
Nat Bartsch Trio is an emerging Victorian jazz ensemble creating reflective, beautiful music. The group showcases the compositions of pianist Nat Bartsch (winner of the prestigious 2010 Melbourne Prize for Music Development Award), and her unique arrangements of contemporary popular music.
The trio is inspired by pianists Andrea Keller and Tony Gould (Nat’s former teachers from the VCA); indie rock bands Elbow and Sigur Ros; and European jazz/minimalism – particularly through Nat’s study with Tord Gustavsen and Nik Bärtsch in 2008. This variety of influence enables the trio to communicate heart-warming music to a broad range of listeners extending beyond the jazz scene. Nat Bartsch Trio has a strong following in Melbourne and has toured Australia, Japan and Europe.
In April 2013 the trio (with new rhythm section Tom Lee and Daniel Farrugia) released their critically acclaimed third recording To Sail, To Sing in Japan and Australia. They are regularly featured on ABC Classic FM and ABC Jazz.
