“Beyond the sparkling playing of Mathew on tenor saxophone and Aron at the piano, what these brothers have brought to town is a swag of their own fascinating and highly entertaining compositions… Hugely diverse in mood and style - and sometimes almost overloaded with ideas”. Sydney Morning Herald

With Aron Ottignon based in Europe for over 5 years, it has been a long time since the Ottignon Brothers Band played in Sydney. Both Aron and Matt Ottignon are superb soloists and composers of striking originality, whose pieces are gripping, challenging yet accessible.

While Matt and Aron have collaborated in both the Ottignon Brothers Band as well as the original line-up of the Space Cadets, Matt has been involved with several very distinctive groups in recent years including Informal Troupe and the Happy Tourist (both as leader), the saxophone quartet Compass, the Strides, Dereb the Ambassador and Ten Part Invention.

Joining them is an exciting rhythm section: on bass is Eden Ottignon, who in addition to performing widely with many recognised artists, also plays in local ensemble The Sunchasers, an innovative group playing on the great outdoors and featuring Eden's own design for a solar-powered rig. Exciting and in-demand local drummer Evan Mannell completes the band.

This performance, while giving a taste of what the Sydney jazz scene had to offer in the early years of the millenium, is not about a nostalgic recreation but about musicians applying independently gained experience to a shared project.
