In the last of our spotlight on Artists in Transition this month, we feature the ever-popular local reggae-jazz-Latin fusion band, The Vampires. Led by two award-winning horn frontmen, Jeremy Rose (2009 Bell Award Winner) and Nick Garbett (2010 National Jazz Awards finalist) the quartet will be launching their much-anticipated third album Garfish which brings together their experiences from a three week intensive workshop at Dave Douglas' Banff Jazz and Creative Music Workshop in Canada.

Garfish highlights their growth in composition, improvisation skills and band interaction and dynamics, having borne the fruits of a successful development period. Featuring mainly compositions by saxophonist Jeremy Rose and trumpeter Nick Garbett, their powerful melodic invention and use of surprising grooves sets them apart.
As well as performing tracks from Garfish, this performance will also feature new compositions by Rose and Garbett. Their powerful melodic invention and use of surprising grooves, fused with the dynamic rhythm section of Boneham and drummer Masso, helps create the unique sound that is The Vampires.
Tonight they will be at a creative peak, so be there to hear it for yourself!

ARTISTS IN TRANSITION (AiT):
As part of SIMA’s ongoing commitment to supporting the jazz sector and providing professional development opportunities to musicians, 2012 sees the launch our Artists in Transition (AiT) program which aims to support professional jazz musicians beyond emerging stage to further develop their careers as professional practising artists. Inaugural artists for this program are Jackson Harrison (winner 2008 National Jazz award), Nick Garbett (3rd place 2010 National Jazz award) and Jeremy Rose (2009 Bell Award for Young Australian Jazz Artist of the Year) and singer Jo Fabro (finalist 2005 National Jazz award, Triple J Unearthed artist). This month, over three consecutive Fridays, you can experience these AiT’s in action in the first of their performances this year for SIMA, kicking off with Jo Fabro and ending with The Vampires.
