SIMA was constituted in 1984 and is now Australia’s leading contemporary jazz organization.
Supported by the Australia Council and the NSW Ministry for the Arts, SIMA’s primary objective is to facilitate the performance and recording of contemporary jazz and improvised music.
Over the years, many musicians and bands such as Clarion Fracture Zone, Roger Frampton, Ten Part Invention, Bernie McGann, The catholics, Mike Nock, Sandy Evans, Aron Ottignon, James Muller, Bobby Gebert, Wanderlust, Matt MacMahon, Phil Slater, Aron Ottignon and in their early days The Necks, gained invaluable exposure because of SIMA, who facilitated the development of their original music and thus helped forge an Australian voice in contemporary jazz.
At the end of 2003, SIMA was placed on the Commonwealth Government’s Register of Cultural Organisations (ROCO).
Donations over $2 to SIMA are now tax deductible.
Your support of SIMA enables contemporary musicians to maintain the highest musical standards and to continue performances, educational work, workshops and research.
Above all, it inspires us to find, explore and facilitate new musical opportunities for our musicians and to help support a music that extends and enriches our individual and common experience.
By adding a tax deductible donation to your annual membership, this entitles you to all the benefits of membership including concessions of up to 30% on all SIMA performances plus the satisfaction of knowing that your donation directly supports the promotion and presentation of contemporary Australian jazz and improvised music.
